Special Educational Needs
Lucy Lockets will work in line with Special Educational Needs Code of practice.
Our nursery is committed to the inclusion of all children.
All children have the right to be cared for and educated to develop their full potential. We provide a positive and welcoming environment where children are supported to their individual needs.
Our nursery believes that each child should be able to learn and develop alongside their peers no matter what their individual needs. Each child’s needs are unique and will be planned for and accommodated by differentiating to ensure every child is included.
At Lucy Lockets we are committed to working alongside parents and carers in the provision for their child’s individual needs enabling us to help the child to reach its full potential.
Before a child begins our nursery we will strive to find out as much information as possible about the child from parents and carers and all professionals involved with the child.
· Ensure our environment is safe and accessibly appropriate to accommodate the child’s needs and needs as they will progress. This may involve an access assessment conducted by our local SEND inclusion support professional.
We will work in line with any professionals involved in the child’s care and ensure any strategies suggested are included into the child’s care.
Our SENCO-Michelle Green will assess the child and issue a care plan which will be agreed with parents and carers.
Keyworker will work with the plan to ensure all strategies and support are implemented throughout the daily routine. Keyworker will bring to SENCOs attention any developments or issues as they occur.
SENCO will support parents and carers with any paperwork they may need to complete where required.
SENCO will complete applications for High needs funding and Educational health Care plans as required by the child. (EHCP)
Nursery will appoint additional support staff and 1:1 staff where funding is secured.
We believe that early intervention will close any gaps and support children to reach their full potential. Where a practitioner has concerns about a child they will discuss with the SENCO, and make further observations.
Nursery will acquire the parent/carers agreement to inform Sefton early Years inclusion teams who will guide the nursery in best practice for the child/family and ensure any transitions are well managed.
Children who learn quicker and who are gifted and talented will be supported to also be appropriately challenged whilst in the setting and any support agencies that may be locally available highlighted to parents and carers. Special attention given when it is time for school transition and their needs and talents are highlighted to future carers.
Our staff team understand that the care, learning and development of children with special or additional needs is the responsibility of all staff in the nursery.
